GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said a suspect is in custody who they said stole a man's SUV Wednesday morning who was trying to give the thief a ride.

Deputies said the Samaritan stopped to give a man a ride who appeared to be a stranded motorist along the 2600 block of Anderson Road.

According to deputies, the man got into the silver Acura MDX and after going a short distance, pulled a gun on the victim and made him get out. They said the suspect then stole the car.

At 1:15 p.m., deputies said they recovered the SUV after it was spotted at the intersection of Rutherford Road and Highway 291 North.

Deputies then pulled over the vehicle and the suspect attempted to flee by ramming into a Greenville deputy's patrol car, according to Lt. Ty Miller.

Miller said Brandon Rashard Barksdale was taken into custody after a physical altercation. He said two other passengers were also taken into custody.

Miller said a handgun was also found in the stolen vehicle.

Due to the winter storm in the area, the suspects were placed in Greenville County Detention Center on a temporary commitment until warrants could be secured, according to Miller.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is charging Barksdale with armed robbery, carjacking, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and resisting arrest.
