As expected, rough weather is already taking down power lines across the South, knocking out the electricity from Texas to Virginia.

As of noon on Wednesday, Feb. 12, more than 170,000 people are without power in the Southeast, and the bulk of those outages are in Georgia.

Most outages are occurring in Atlanta and eastward, but a handful of customers in Muscogee County are waiting for the lights to come back on.

Authorities are reminding the public to report downed power lines, but stay far away from then as contact can be deadly.
