Police: Valentine's Day fight turns deadly, woman charged with murder of boyfriend

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus woman has been arrested for stabbing her boyfriend to death.

Niketa Garnette Brooks, 39, is charged with murder.

Columbus investigators report Brooks stabbed her boyfriend, 38-year-old Tyree Burtin, once in the chest with a knife. It happened at his apartment located at 4100 Cusseta Rd. in Columbus shortly after 1 a.m.  

Burtin died from his injuries, and was pronounced at 11:47 this morning, Feb. 15, in the ICU of Midtown Medical Center. His body is being sent to Atlanta for autopsy.

Brooks is charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. She pled not guilty to the crimes in court. The judge imposed a $25,000 bond on Brooks for the latter charge, and no bond for the murder charge.
