ATLANTA, TX (KSLA) -

A man was taken to the hospital after falling from the top of a signal light pole in Atlanta, Texas.

Atlanta Police say the man climbed atop the pole around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening on Highway 59, in front of Wal-Mart.  Authorities do not know why the man was up there.

Police tried for several hours to talk him into coming down.  He started down the pole around 9 p.m. and the light broke sending him falling to the ground, police said.

The man, who's name has not been released, was taken to a Texarkana hospital.

His condition is not at this time.
