COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Tuesday Feb. 18 begins a very special week in education that hopes to get the entire family involved.

The Parent-Teacher Association at Fort Middle School Service Learning Magnet Academy held a meet and greet today for parents as a part of "Bring Your Family to School Week."

This week boasts a list of activities for parents and students including an awards program and Drive Thru Breakfast Day.

News Leader 9 spoke with Sabrena Jackson, a parent liaison from the school, about why they are making sure parents are a part of this week.

"You see that your parents coming to school and sitting in classroom, it kinda helps to correct that positive behavior but it also lets the child know that their mom or dad or auntie or uncle is also concerned about their education as well," Jackson said. "So just to see them walking to the classroom, peeping in, sometimes eating lunch, talking with the teachers during that time, it does help promote education and parental support."

Jackson spoke with parents about testing tips for the CRCT. According to findings, parent involvement helps a student succeed in and outside of the classroom.
