Residents injured during house fire on Basswood Dr.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Authorities in Columbus are investigating a house fire.

The fire started at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at a house located on the 4800 block of Basswood Dr. It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the flames.

The residents and neighbors in the area reported hearing a loud explosion just before the fire.

Two people inside the home were injured. A male victim was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and a female victim was also taken to the hospital for second-degree burns. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The house suffered about $170,000 in damage. The loss of contents inside the house are estimated to total an additional $75,000. The home is considered to be a total loss.

Fire officials are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
