Under the Freedom of Information Act, we obtained a copy of a Notice of Alleged Violation that the Chesterfield Health Department sent to a pizza restaurant in the food court at Chesterfield Towne Center.
The Notice says the Department observed certain conditions that may constitute threats to public health.
We gave Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen in Chesterfield Towne Center the NBC12 Hall of Fame Award three years ago for acing health inspections.
But it received a Notice of Alleged Violation after it received five critical violations on its last health inspection.
According to the inspection report, three violations were repeats, including that all pizzas and items on the steam table weren't being labeled with a four hour cook, serve or discard time, and employees were touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands. Another issue noted was that an employee prepared customer orders without washing his hands.
The notice told Villa Fresh to mitigate the potential health threats and it did. The Health Department report shows Villa Fresh earned a perfect score, correcting all problems, on its follow-up inspection ten days later.
We called the Villa Fresh manager, who told us the district manager would contact us, but we haven't heard back yet.
We delivered the NBC12 Hall of Fame Award to Apollo's at 3324 Pump Road in Henrico.
Said owner Joseph Andarz, "Food safety is essential to our business and we take it very seriously."
This pizza restaurant, which offers delivery, dine-in, and take-out, has earned three perfect inspection scores in a row.
"It's not easy," said Andarz. "It's tough to deal with all the regulations and rules. But it pays off when you get this kind of award."
This is Apollo's fourth location in greater Richmond and second location to win the award.
