FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Soldiers and civilians packed the derby auditorium at McGinnis Wichkam Hall Thursday morning for a Black History Month program.
Black History Month was established in February of 1976. Since then, every American president has designated February as Black History Month, including a specific theme.
Command Sergeant Major Michael Green talked about this year's theme, which was civil rights in America. Green is a veteran of seven deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Black History Month is celebrated in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Germany.
