Tornado watch issued for all counties in FOX6 viewing area

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

All counties in the FOX6 viewing area are under a tornado watch through early Friday morning.

Lamar counties is also under a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:45 p.m.

The following counties are under a tornado watch until 1 a.m.:

Bibb, Perry, Greene, Pickens, Hale, Sumter, Marengo, Tuscaloosa.

The following counties are under a tornado watch until 3 a.m.:

Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Cullman, Walker, Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton, Blount, St. Clair, Talladega, Coosa, Calhoun, Clay, Cherokee.

A system of storms moving through the state have triggered the watch. Many areas in Mississippi and Tennessee are also under tornado watches.

The system has already caused damaged like downed trees and downed utility poles in Mississippi so the FOX6 StormWarn team will continue to monitor the situation.

Here is a timeline of tonight's storms:

8-9 p.m.: Storms enter Alabama and move through the western counties.

10 p.m.-midnight: Storms enter and move through central counties. The storm line could reach from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Cullman.

1 a.m. to 3 a.m.: Storms enter and move through east Alabama.

4 a.m.-5 a.m.: Strongest line of storms expected to exit Alabama and move into Georgia.
