Two high profile tenants are leaving Stony Point Fashion park. We are investigating the recent exodus.
Employees remain optimistic.
"Things are going to be great," said Martha Kane. "Spring is coming, and it will be nice out here to shop."
Many customers are surprised to learn Champps is closed. We have learned Starbucks is next.
"After careful consideration, we've determined that it is best to close the store at Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond, VA. The store will be closing on Monday, February 24, 2014," said a Starbucks spokesperson. "As difficult as this is, we must make the right business decisions for the sake of Starbucks long-term growth."
Mall management notes Champps is going through bankruptcy.
"For us," said Stony Point General Manager Steve Bonniville. "It is business as usual, and it really doesn't speak to how well the center is doing at all."
We noticed other empty storefronts right next to Champps.
"Just know that we've got some exciting news that hopefully we will be able to announce shortly," said Bonniville.
Kane admits people are asking questions.
"They are just kind of wondering what's going on?" said Kane. "What's next? We just have to keep telling them...things are coming."
Bonniville says he is looking forward to the future.
"Stony Point Fashion Park is here for the long haul," said Bonniville. "Don't read anything into what happens on a one-off basis. We are planning on being around for a while."
The mall would not give a date for any new announcements.
