Severe Thunderstorm Watch from NOAA/SPC Severe Thunderstorm Watch from NOAA/SPC

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for several counties in the FOX6 viewing area. This watch goes until 8 a.m. Friday.

The counties under this new watch in our area include: Blount, Chilton, Coosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Calhoun, Clay, Cherokee, Etowah, Bibb, Perry, Hale, Tuscaloosa, Greene, Pickens, Cleburne, Randolph, Tallapoosa and Sumter.

This replaces a tornado watch which was in place much of Thursday evening, and early Friday morning.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain and gusty winds continue to march through Alabama in the early morning hours.

FOX6 Chief Meteorlogist J-P Dice and the FOX6 Stormwarn team are on your side continuing to monitor this weather situation.

As with any severe weather threat, make sure you have a way to get weather warnings while you are sleeping. Have a weather radio on, or download the FOX6 Weather app and turn on the severe weather alerts. Read more about how to do that at

J-P will break in on the air as needed this morning. Mickey Ferguson will be on the air starting at 4:30 on FOX6 News Good Day Alabama with the latest weather information too.
