Columbus Police Department responds to the shooting. Upon arrival, officers discover the victim had been shot multiple times. EMS called to the scene and victim transported to the Medical Center for treatment.
Victim pronounced dead by the Coroner and identified as 44-year-old Tonya-Moses Charles of Phenix City, an employee of the Division of Family and Children Services.
Police notify three Phenix City schools that children of the victim or suspect are enrolled there. Phenix City Elementary School, Phenix City Intermediate School, and Central High School are placed on a precautionary lockdown.
All school lockdowns lifted
Shooting suspect found dead in the backseat of his car near Fortson Business Park Boulevard. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head with a 380 Semi Automatic Cobra, the same gun used earlier in the day.
