Below is the full news release from the Horry County Police Department detailing the murder charges against Tammy and Sidney Moorer and the latest in the investigation into the disappearance of Heather Elvis:

Murder Charges Filed in Disappearance of Heather Elvis

Horry County, South Carolina (February 24, 2014) 

Murder charges were filed this morning in connection with a two month investigation into the disappearance of Heather Elvis.

On December 20, 2013 an investigation was initiated by Detectives with the Horry County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit after Heather Elvis' vehicle was located at the Peachtree Boat Landing in Socastee the night before.  Shortly after, a task force consisting of law enforcement officers from the Horry County Police Department, Horry County Sheriff's Office, State Law Enforcement Division, Myrtle Beach Police Department, the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office, U.S. Marshal Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Unit was created to investigate the case.

On February 21, 2014 a search warrant was executed at the home of Sidney and Tammy Moorer as a result of the investigation.  Both Sidney and Tammy were taken into custody during the execution of the search warrant.  Both were charged with one count of Obstruction of Justice and two counts of Indecent Exposure the following day.  On February 23rd, they were both charged with Kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of Heather Elvis.

This morning, a press conference was held at the ML Brown Public Safety Building by the Horry County Police Department and the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office.  It was announced at the press conference that both Sidney and Tammy Moorer were charged with the murder of Heather Elvis.  A bond hearing has been set for the week of March 17th.

Arrested:

Sidney St. Clair Moorer (38 YOA W/M) DOB: 01-14-76.  He resides in the Myrtle Beach section of Horry County.  He is currently in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Charges: Obstruction of Justice, Indecent Exposure (2 counts), Kidnapping, Murder 

Tammy Caison Moorer (41 YOA W/F) DOB: 03-08-72.  She resides in the Myrtle Beach section of Horry County.  She is currently in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
