WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) -

West Point police officers have arrested Wesley Eugene Mezick for allegedly assaulting a man with a box cutter and for probation violation.

On Feb. 23 at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers with the West Point Police Department responded to the area of East 10th Street in reference to an aggravated assault.

The victim stated that he was approached by white male suspect, later identified as Mezick. The suspect allegedly asked the victim for money. The victim responded by telling the suspect that he had no money at which point the suspect assaulted the victim with a box cutter severely cutting him in the face and on the head.

The victim was transported by EMS and is in stable condition.

Investigators also responded to conduct follow up on the assault and to process the crime scenes. They were able to identify the suspect as Mezick, and it was also determined that Mezick had an active warrant out of Troup County for probation violation. An additional warrant for aggravated assault was also obtained.

West Point Police Officers located Mezick at West Point Storage on Highway 29 on Feb. 24 at approximately 10:20 a.m. He was arrested without incident.

The West Point Police would like to thank the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI), the Troup County Sheriff's Office and the LaGrange Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.
