Dreher High School AD says matter resolved in basketball game controversy

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The athletic director of Dreher High School said concerns surrounding what happened at a basketball game vs. Lower Richland High School have been resolved.

In the last week, the "I Stand With Mike DuBard" Facebook page has had more than a 1,000 followers. The page was created after issues were raised last week by Richland County Councilman Kelvin Washington.

WIS started investigating the story because of concerns raised and the attention it gained on social media.

When fans of Dreher and Lower Richland met, they pack the gyms -- standing room only.

It appears the issues revolve around a seating plan for the Feb. 8 game and whether it was approved by both schools. WIS asked the district, but received no response.

"I have met and discussed these matters with Superintendent Mack," Dreher Athletic Director Michael DuBard said in a statement on Facebook. "The matters are resolved. My number one priority is, and has been for 38 years, the safety of our young people and the assurance of an educational environment in which they may learn and enjoy."

DuBard's supporters encourage the community to write board members saying he was trying to keep everyone safe.
