LGBTQ community speaks out against SC lawmaker

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

A South Carolina lawmaker is being target by the LGBTQ community after he led the charge to take nearly $70,000 in funding away from the College of Charleston and an upstate school.

State Representative Garry Smith claims the school used state money to promote a lesbian and gay lifestyle by having freshmen read books with gay themes.

The LGBTQ community is responding to Smith through a blog, posting their own messages they want the state lawmaker to read.

The messages appear on a Tumblr blog called Gay Faces Gay Places.

"Shame on Garry for thinking he can censor my voice," read one blog post.

"Our Lives, our stories. Shame on you Garry Smith for trying to silence us," read another.
