Columbus, Kendrick girls advance to state quarterfinals

Columbus 50, Marist 37; Greenbrier 63, Hardaway 39

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Tatyana Wyatt scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter to lead Columbus High to a 50-37 win over Marist on Monday in second round action in the GHSA Class AAAA state playoffs.

The Lady Devils held a slim 31-30 lead going into the final quarter before Wyatt sparked a 19-7 run to end the ballgame.

Columbus will host Columbia in the state quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Also advancing were the Kendrick Lady Cherokees, a 90-34 winner over Rabun County in Class AA. In the Class A-Public playoffs, Greenville beat Charlton County 62-59, and Randolph-Clay defeated Central-Talbotton 71-48.

Kendrick will host Greater Atlanta Christian, Greenville will play at Wilkinson County, and Randolph-Clay will play host to Towns County on Wednesday.

The Randolph-Clay boys also advanced on Tuesday, defeating Georgia Military 56-42. The Red Devils will host the winner of Tuesday's game between Hawkinsville and Seminole County.

Besides Central-Talbotton, four other area girls teams were also eliminated Monday night. Manchester (AA) lost at Jefferson 44-33, Hardaway (AAAAA) fell at Greenbrier 63-39, Brookstone (A-Private) lost at Darlington 63-28, and Marion County lost at Mitchell County 69-39.

The Northside girls play Forest Park on Tuesday night as part of a doubleheader with the Patriots boys team. They face McIntosh.

As for other area boys teams in action on Tuesday, Carver and Callaway are also at home, while Marion County, Manchester, and Stewart County play road games. Winners will advance to state quarterfinal play.
