KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

All southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Kansas City's downtown loop reopened just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The lanes were closed after an overturned tractor-trailer rig caught fire.

One southbound reopened just after 10 a.m. Tuesday and all lanes reopened about 30 minutes later. All ramps to and from I-35 southbound have also reopened.

The wreck was reported shortly before 7 a.m. just south of the Southwest Boulevard exit near the Cambridge Circle exit.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, large flames could be seen shooting from out of the overturned semi truck. Crews used foam to put out the fire.

Firefighters say the truck was hauling heavy rock and some of the rock was thrown out of the vehicle. Six other cars were hit by the debris.

The driver was able to get out, but suffered some injuries. He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.

The morning rush hour backup extended all the into the downtown loop.  Northbound lanes were also slow as one lane was shut down for a time.

Right now, it is still unclear what caused the wreck.
