AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

There is no secret to staying young, but there are things you can do to help ensure you stay healthy as you age.

"As you get older you want to focus on staying active for their health. Most people will generally have heart issues, females tend to have bone density issues, the general stuff that comes with aging. Exercise is another choice other than just going to the doctor and taking medications. A good healthy choice to improve the quality of life as we get older," explains fitness specialist, Patrick Russell.

EAMC's HealthPlus Fitness Center, the area's only medically based technologically advanced fitness facility, helps people of all ages achieve their best health and attain a better quality of life.

"We are more a wellness center than a gym. We focus on general health. We see anyone from baseball players to cardiac and pulmonary patients and then people who just come in and want to exercise for day to day health," says Russell.

HealthPlus will be one of dozens of vendors at the City of Auburn's "Fit as a Fiddle: A 50+ Lifestyle and Health Fair" on Saturday.

"When you become a senior or 50+, it's not just about your medical ailments or the future, but everything. Your entire package and so that what we want to offer at this fair," Auburn's Park and Recreations Community and Special Programs Director, Alison Hall.

A wide variety of vendors will be there to answer any of your questions from the latest fitness trends, to aroma therapy to long-term care options.

"When you're 50 or 60 or 70, life doesn't have to be all about going to the doctor or illness. You can have a wonderful life with you grandchildren, your family, your friends and we just want to showcase that you can have that great life here in Auburn," explains Hall.

The health fair will be this Saturday from nine am to noon at the Harris Center off of Perry Street in Auburn.

It is free to the public and participants will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes. You can find more information by clicking here.
