Memorial service held for Ft. Benning parachute training victim

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Troops on Fort Benning came together for the memorial service for the airmen who died a week ago during a parachute training accident.

Master Sergeant Gauvlic was the Operations Superintendent for the 17th Special Tactics Squadron on Fort Benning.

He enlisted into the Air Force in June 1998. He was deployed overseas many times to Kuwait, Iraq, and, Afghanistan.

After the service we talked to people who worked closely with him.

"As much as we went TDY and all the things we did, he always put his family first," said MSGT Mark Foster. "And he was kind of guy I looked up to as another Master Sergeant, as a father  and as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force."

"He gave 110 percent no matter what he did," said retired MSGT Eric Brandenburg. "I don't care if you tell him to sweep the hallways, jump out of airplanes. Whatever task you gave that kid, he'd give 110 percent."

Master Sergeant Gavulic is survived by his wife and their six children.
