WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

A Warrick County woman is looking for answers after getting a costly water bill.

Tina Walker has lived in her Lynnville home for about 12 years. She says her monthly water bill always usually ends up being about $70 to $80.

That's why she was shocked when she opened her latest bill and saw that she's due to pay $1,638. 04. That's the cost of 90,000 gallons of water.

Walker says someone with the utility office did call her to warn her that her meter reading was high, but she wasn't prepared for a price tag that large.

She says water officials checked to make sure there are no leaks at her home, and to her knowledge, there have been no water main breaks in the area.

Now she's wondering how and why she's being charged so much.

"When I saw $1,600, I just automatically, I'd had a bad week anyways. I just started crying. That's how I spent the evening, trying to figure out how anybody's bill could be that high in a single-wide trailer. I have three small kids, but who would have thought that in one month you could use 90,000 of water with no leak," Walker says.

We did reach out to the Lynnville Utility Office, but were unable to get in touch with anyone there because of the weather.

Walker says she hopes they will replace her meter soon so they can see whether that is the problem.
