Tucson's budget for graffiti clean-up may soon go away

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Driving around Tucson, there is no way to avoid seeing it - graffiti - it's on walls, utility boxes anything a tagger sees fit is fair game.

Each year it costs the city $1 million of the budget to clean it up, and tonight a new proposal could totally eliminate this abatement program.

This evening Tucson's City Council is expected to discuss what else can be to reduce graffiti and the costs associated with cleaning it up.

City Councilman Steve Kozachik says one solution could be to bill the utilities when the city has to clean their equipment.

The utility companies have stated they already respond to graffiti calls when the public reports them.
