WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

The man suspected of shooting and killing Joseph Nelson appeared in a Warrick County courtroom Wednesday morning.

Court documents identify Mathew McCallister as the person who shot and killed Nelson. His body was found on a conveyor belt at Alcoa's power plant on February 17

At his initial hearing, McCallister asked to be moved from the Vanderburgh County Jail to the Warrick County Jail. The judge said that's up to the sheriff.

The Sheriff's Office says McCallister is being held in Vanderburgh County to keep him separated from the other three suspects in the case.

McCallister also reluctantly accepted having a public defender appointed. He says he's trying to retain his own counsel.

Two of the other suspects in this case, David Lackey, Jr. and Jade Stigall, are due in court next week on a motion to release.

The third suspect, Shawn Grigsby, will appear in July.
