Crimson Tide to honor Martha Lang as SEC Legend

Former University of Alabamawomen's golfer Martha (Jones) Lang will be honored as the Crimson Tide's SECLegend on Thursday evening during halftime of the Tide's 5 p.m. women'sbasketball game at the SEC Tournament in Duluth, Ga.

Lang played in the AIAW NationalChampionship all four years of her career. She earned AIAW All-America honorsin 1975 as a senior after finishing third at the AIAW Championship and helpingAlabama finish seventh in the program's first season as a varsity sport. 

One of the most storied amateurgolfers from the state of Alabama, Lang won the 1988 USGA Women's Mid-Amateurand was the first Alabama golfer ever selected to the Curtis Cup team, playingfor the United States on the 1992 team. She then captained the USA's 1996Curtis Cup squad. She was also the runner-up at the 1991 U.S. Women'sMid-Amateur.

Lang has served on the USGAWomen's Committee since 1999, helping pick the Curtis Cup and World Amateurparticipants. Lang served as the chairwoman of the United States GolfAssociation Women's Committee in 2011-12.  In 2013, the Alabama GolfAssociation honored her with the Joe H. King Award in March – becoming only the16th recipient of this award, which recognizes amateur golfers in Alabama fortheir contributions to the game of golf.
