Police: serial rapist also targeting older victims in east Alabama

Authorities search for sexual assault suspect targeting victims in Lee Co.

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - In the early afternoon of January 31, 2013, Lee County Sheriff deputies were called to a home off Lee Road 379 near the Bleecker Community in reference an attempted rape of an 81-year-old-woman.

"The victim heard a knock on the door, she opened the door to an individual that asked if he could use the phone. She let him have access to her apartment to use her phone and that is when he sexually assaulted her," explains Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Almost a year to the day later, Lee County deputies are investigating a similar incident that also occurred in the Smiths Station area on January 28.

A woman in her 60s was walking her dog when she was approached by a man asking for directions.

"A short time later she heard a knock on her door, the individual asked to use her phone, she let him inside and sexually assaulted her," says Jones.

In both situations the suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, between 160 to 170 pounds, clean-shaven and is well-spoken driving a silver or white sedan.

The suspect's description is similar to a story we brought you Tuesday night of sexual assaults occurring between February 25 and March 3 in Columbus, where the suspect was seen in a silver Dodge Charger, but authorities say there is no definite connection.

"We've been working with them to see if there are any connections. There are some similarities and there is some dissimilarity, but nonetheless we are working with various law enforcement agencies in the region to see if there are some connections here," says Jones.

If you have any information you asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
