COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

One Columbus mayoral candidate released his plan to make the city of Columbus safer.

Independent candidate Colin Martin released his public safety plan during a campaign event in Columbus on Thursday.

Citing testimonies from people who have been victims of crimes in the city, the candidate said public safety must be the top priority for a city leader.

"As I going around to meet the voters, they tell me they do not feel safe," Martin said. "They tell me the crime is up. And the responsibility for the city's governor is to make people feel safe in their homes."

Martin says the four points of his public safety plan are:

-Implement Community-Oriented Policing
-Make the first offense the last offense
-Keep law enforcement officers past five years
-Rebuild the relationship with the Public Safety Leadership Team
