Man shot by Opelika police officer on I-85

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

The Opelika Police Department reports an officer shot a man on I-85 at approximately 7:15 p.m. CST Thursday night.

According to Captain Bruce DeLong, the officer Philip Hancock made contact with a car that was driving extremely slow on the Interstate. At some point the man inside the car was shot by the officer and injured. He was transported to the hospital, however his condition is unknown at this time.

Officer Hancock was not injured. He has been with OPD for seven years and has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation has been turned over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigations. This is a developing story and more details will be added as they become available.
