TROY, AL -

It was a game of ups-and-downs as Troy (10-19, 5-12 SBC) fell to UT Arlington (14-15, 9-8 SBC), 87-86, in double overtime on Thursday night.  The Trojans remain in eighth in the standings, but need a win on Saturday to earn a spot in the Sun Belt Championships.

"I know everybody will say this, but these guys deserve to be in New Orleans," said head coach Phil Cunningham.  "Our guys fought back, they never gave up.  They refused to give up and that has to carry us over to Saturday night."

The Trojans will play what will effectively be a play-in-game against Texas State on Saturday night at 7:45.  The winner will advance to the Sun Belt Championships in New Orleans next week.

UT Arlington took a four-point lead with under one minute to play in the second overtime and the Trojans could not recover, as the Mavericks hit the majority of their free throws down the stretch.  Hunter Williams drained three free throws with two seconds to play to narrow the deficit to just one point.

Troy took a 49-44 lead with 13:55 to play and then went cold.  From there, the Mavericks went on a 19-0 run to take a seemingly insurmountable 14-point lead with under seven minutes to play.

From there, Antoine Myers took over, scoring seven straight points to help narrow the deficit.  Tevin Calhoun would close out what ended as a 16-2 run with a 3-pointer with 34 seconds to play to force the first overtime.

The teams traded buckets in the first overtime, forcing a second.

Williams led the Trojans with 25 points on the night.  Myers added 21 of his own, with the majority coming in the closing minutes of regulation and overtime.  Josh Warren tied a career-high with 11 boards.

Troy shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field and 27.6 percent (8-of-29) from beyond the arc.  The Trojans were outrebounded 45-41.
