COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Children and adults alike put on their skates and hit the ice with the Columbus Cottonmouths on Monday for a good cause.

Nearly a dozen children from Children's Miracle Network (CMN) at Midtown Medical Center and their families got to skate with team members to help raise awareness about the upcoming Tip-A-Snake fundraiser.

Tom Maldonado, defenceman for the Cottonmouths, told us why skating with these kids is so special.

"It just a fun way to get out to the community and interact with the children," said Maldonado. "To see the smile on their face brings a smile to us. Seeing them so happy and getting on the ice and having a good time."

The Tip-A-Snake fundraiser will be a dinner and silent auction where members of the Cottonmouths ice hockey team serve as waiters to earn tips for CMN. In past years, the players have been known to sing and dance to raise money. There is also a competition between players and between tables to see who can raise the most tip money.

The 2013 Tip-A-Snake event raised over $18,000.

The 2014 event will take place on March 18 at 6 p.m. at Green Island Country Club. Dress for the evening is red carpet attire. Individual tickets are available for $50, and a table of 8 is available for $375. For tickets call 706-660-6559, and visit the Columbus Regional website for more information.
