FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation memorializes Building 392 in honor of Master Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez.
Master Sgt. Benavidez earned the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.
He saved at least eight lives while suffering 37 separate wounds during a six-hour battle near South Vietnam on May 2, 1968.
Master Sgt. Benavidez served 24 years of military service, and upon retirement, devoted his life to encouraging young people to get educated and to achieve goals.
Building 392 is the home of the training department of WHINSEC that was originally established in 1998 and named for the Hispanic hero.
