PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 72-year-old man is recovering at the hospital after falling on Echo Canyon and fracturing his hip on Tuesday.

Phoenix Fire Department Technical Rescue Team responded to Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Phoenix fire officials said rescue crews climbed up to the patient who was approximately 3/4 up the trail in the area known as the "upper waterfalls." Crews carried him up hill approximately 200 yards to a small landing zone where the Phoenix Police Department's helicopter was able to land, and then fly him down to an ambulance.

The hiker is expected to be OK.

His name has not been released.
