TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a car Wednesday morning in Tempe.

A police spokesman said the 60-year-old man was trying to cross University Drive when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle about 6:15 a.m. at George Drive, just east of Price Road.

The driver stopped and called 911, the spokesman said.

Impairment did not appear to be a factor, the spokesman said.

University Drive was closed in both directions from the Loop 101 Price Freeway to Evergreen Road and there were restrictions on northbound Price Road.

The man's identity was not released.

No other information was immediately available.
