Study: Atlanta ranked highest in sex trade

(WTVM) - Atlanta has the largest cash-based underground economy of sex trade and trafficking among eight major U.S. cities, according to findings of a study by the Urban Institute's Justice Policy Center.

The study found Atlanta's underground sex economy is worth at least $290 million per year.

Researchers interviewed pimps, traffickers, sex workers and child pornography offenders, as well as local and federal law enforcement officers.

Denver had the smallest underground sex economy of the eight cities studied, with $40 million a year.
