Girl Scouts celebrate 102nd birthday at Harlem Globetrotters game

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Girl Scouts celebrated their 102nd birthday with the Harlem Globetrotters Wednesday night.

More than 100 Girl Scouts and volunteers showed up at the Columbus Civic Center for the special birthday celebration.

Troops from across the area were there to mark the occasion as well.  We spoke with Toya Winder, the program manager of the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, about the importance of the organization in today's society.

"Girl Scouts is the premiere leadership organization for girls - not just in the United States of America, but all over the world," Toya said. "So, it's very important to understand that this 102nd birthday is a huge birthday for us."

The Scouts had the opportunity to take pictures with TNT Maddox, a female member of the Harlem Globetrotters, and of course they had a cake!
