Nurse gives back to people suffering from kidney failure

Posted: Updated:

DaVita Victory Dialysis on Shelby Street in Columbus is open for business.

On Thursday, they hosted an open house for people who suffer from kidney failure.

According to the center about 20 million Americans are living with chronic kidney disease and most are undiagnosed.

We talked to Amber Downs, a home dialysis nurse, who had to get a kidney transplant six years ago. Her experience was so positive she went to nursing school to come back and help those in need.

"Right now I'm six years post-transplant and home dialysis was the way that I stayed healthy and was in the best shape I could get a transplant, so I think it's very important to stay in good spirits and to take the best care of yourself as you possibly can," said Amber.
