Muscogee County PE teachers attend training for The First Tee National School Program

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Physical Education teachers from 23 elementary schools around Muscogee County were introduced to a new program called The First Tee today, March 14.

The program, sponsored by Georgia Power, teaches children nine core values and nine healthy habits in each lesson. While getting kids moving by introducing them to golf, students also learn about healthy eating through activities with colors.

Some elementary schools in Muscogee County were chosen for this program, and physical education teachers from those 23 schools participated in professional development training today at Hardaway High School.

Scott Willis, Health and Physical Education teacher at JD Davis Elementary School, says, "What I like about this program so far is that we're active the entire time, we're engaged the entire time. Like in a PE setting, a lot of times you lecture about what you're gonna do, or you do a set induction. With this program right here, we're up and moving and active a lot sooner.

The teachers will receive the equipment within the next three weeks, and decide whether to implement the program during the spring semester or wait until next year.
