(WTVM) -

The two suspects involved in a police chase that started in Columbus, Ga., and ended in Russell County, Ala. have been identified.

Phenix City police say the driver, 31-year-old Susan Stafford, is charged with Bringing Stolen Property Into the State (class B Felony), Possession of Cocaine (Class C Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Reckless Endangerment.

The passenger, 40-year-old Laleria Johnson, is charged by Phenix City police with Bringing Stolen Property into the State (class B Felony).

After the suspects are booked in Phenix City, they will also face charges in Columbus, including Theft by Receiving and other traffic charges.

One Columbus police officer tells News Leader 9 that one of their officers was initiating a traffic stop, ran the tags and learned that the vehicle, a green Chevy Cavalier, was reported stolen around 10:45 a.m.

Police say Stafford and Johnson took off in what started as a low speed chase at 40 to 50 mph on Victory Dr. in Columbus, Ga. They continued onto the 280 By-pass, then Crawford Rd. in Phenix City, Ala., and escalated to about 80 to 90 mph on Hwy 431.

The officer says traffic was light and the chase was never a danger to the officers or the public.

The driver voluntarily complied, and pulled over after about 10 to 15 minutes into the chase.

At least a dozen officers and deputies from Phenix City, Russell County and Columbus were involved in the chase.
