Fort Benning celebrates Women's History Month

Posted: Updated:

Soldiers and civilians joined together on Fort Benning today, March 20, to celebrate Women's History Month.

This year's theme is Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment. The keynote speaker was the commander of the 14th Combat Support Hospital, COL Paula Lodi. Her unit provides healthcare and emergency services to all service members within the operational area.

"Even as our senior leaders are faced with a substantial draw down of the size of the force, they are actively looking for ways to expand the role of females in the military," Lodi says.

Women's History Month is observed to ensure that the history of American women is recognized and celebrated throughout the country. President Jimmy Carter first proclaimed national Women's History Week in 1980.
