Zeph Baker begins campaign for Columbus City Council District 1

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A former candidate for Columbus Mayor is now running for Columbus City Council District One.

Zeph Baker officially beginning his campaign to take the seat of Councilman Jerry 'Pops' Barnes, which represents the city from Macon Rd. to Saint Mary's Rd.

Baker addressed supporters gathered at the public library, promising to reduce crime and bring business back into their community. He says he respects Councilman Barnes' friendliness and accessibility, but the people of District One need something more.

"It's nothing personal; it's business," says Baker. "We are just tired of being left behind while resources are being distributed all over town in other districts. District One has failed to receive the necessary resources to strengthen the families and the neighborhoods within it."

Baker told our cameras he no longer wants to see his neighbors driving fifteen to twenty minutes across town to do their shopping, and to eat at nice restaurants.

Election day is May 20.
