COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

In Historic Downtown Columbus, The very first Madam C.J. Walker Women in Business Expo took place at the Liberty Theatre.

March is Women's History month, and Madam C.J. Walker, a pioneer in the hair care industry, was America's first female self-made millionaire.

The Expo included exhibits, poetry, lectures and performances, all celebrating the hardworking women that Dr. Shae Anderson, Executive Director of the Liberty Theatre, says are a part of what makes Columbus so great.

"I think there are lots of really great women owned businesses here in Columbus," Anderson says. "Columbus is a growing, thriving city. And some of those businesses are definitely what helped to make us thrive. Not just the store front businesses, but the home-based businesses, the entrepreneurs, the online businesses."

Anderson says The Madam C.J. Walker Women in Business Expo is now going to be a regular part of Columbus' Artbeat festival, which takes place every year in March.
