(WTVM) -

Mayor Tomlinson has proclaimed last weekend's event as "Bowl For Kids' Sake Weekend" to praise Big Brothers Big Sisters for its work with local children facing hardships.

The program is raising a total of $20 million across America to help young children reach their dreams.

Bowl For Kids' Sake is the program's only fundraiser. News Leader 9 spoke with a big brother and little brother pair to see how they like the program.

"The opportunity to influence someone's life for the better, it's an awesome experience and Kavien helps me out sometimes," said big brother Patrick Whaley. "We're really gonna be like brothers one day. Real brothers. Aint that right?"

"Yup!" replied little brother Kavien Austin.

Mayor Tomlinson says the Big Brothers Big Sisters program also needs more male volunteers.

Our local chapter in the Chattahoochee Valley met its goal by raising $50,000, which will be used to enhance the program. They hope to find better matches and recruit more positive role models.
