Cougars 19th in latest Division II baseball rankings

TUCSON. Ariz. – The Columbus State Cougars continued their climb in the national baseball polls this week, moving up six spots to No. 19 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II poll released by the organization on Monday. 

In addition to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, the Cougars made their debut in the College Baseball Lineup poll on Sunday coming in at No. 25. 

One of the hottest teams in the nation, the Cougars continued their great play of late going a perfect 4-0 last week including sweeping Peach Belt Conference rival Francis Marion. CSU is currently on a five-game winning streak and is 21-3 over the past 24 games. 

The top four teams in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll stayed the same this week with Tampa, Lander, West Florida and Minnesota State Mankato holding down the four spots. West Texas A&M moved into the fifth position. 

Tampa and LU are the one and two teams in the latest College Baseball Lineup poll with Minnesota State Mankato, UWF and Southern Arkansas rounding out the top five. 

Fellow PBC schools Georgia College (ninth, eighth), USC Aiken (14th, seventh) and UNC Pembroke (22nd, 16th) appear in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and College Baseball Lineup polls, respectively. 

The Cougars will now prepare for a tough midweek game against No. 3/4 West Florida on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
