Victims' identities released after fatal wreck on Shug Jordan Pkwy in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Authorities have released the identities of the victims involved in the three-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in Auburn.

At approximately 7:58 a.m. the Auburn Police Division responded to a call of a three vehicle accident with injuries on Shug Jordan Parkway between Wire Road and S. College Street. Once officers arrived on the scene they discovered the east bound roadway blocked with one vehicle and two other vehicles off the roadway.

Auburn Fire Division and EAMC Emergency medical personnel, including the Life Saver helicopter, responded to the scene to treat injuries.

The driver of a red 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, 27-year-old Joel C. Finney from Notasulga and the passenger, 53-year-old Rodney Harcum Sr. also from Notasulga, died as a result of injuries they sustained in the crash.  They were both pronounced dead at the scene at 8:05 a.m. by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

The driver of a white 2003 Honda CRV, a 26-year-old female from Tuskegee, sustained serious injuries from the crash and was airlifted by Life Saver Helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.

The driver of a grey 2009 Toyota Corolla, a 23-year-old male from Phenix City, was not injured and later released from the scene.

A preliminary investigation of the accident by the Auburn Police Division determined that the Honda and the Toyota were traveling in the same direction and came into contact after which the Honda and the Pontiac collided head on in the roadway in the 300 block of Shug Jordan Parkway.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Police Division and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
