Columbus City Council's vote for RiverWalk restrooms deemed inconclusive

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus City Council's vote on restrooms on the RiverWalk was deemed inconclusive Tuesday night, March 25.

The motion received a five to two vote in favor of entering into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to build public restrooms along the Columbus RiverWalk, beneath the Frank Martin Memorial Pedestrian Bridge. However, the motion needed six votes to pass.

The price tag for the project is $244,000 with the State paying 80 percent, or $195,000, and the city of Columbus picking up the remaining $49,000.

Still, some council members raised concern about the costs.

Columbus Planning Director Rick Jones said, "I'm not happy, completely happy with the price, but I do understand what we're up against challenges to get down there and do the work, costs for materials, having to hook up to sanitary, sewer, water in that area."

The plan to build the 900 sq. ft. restroom will be reconsidered at a future meeting.
