LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) -

Feeding the Valley food bank celebrated the grand opening of their new northern region branch in LaGrange this morning, March 27.

The new facility with be more accessible to organizations in Meriwether, Harris and Talbot counties.

"We wanted to open a branch that would be more available to organizations in our northern counties service area." says Frank Sheppard, Executive Director. "In the past, organizations have driven to Columbus to pick-up supplies. This new location also allows us to increase our storage volume."

The food bank distributes on average more than 6.7 million pounds of food on an annual basis in partnership with over 225 agencies in a 14-county area in Georgia and Alabama. In the northern region alone, the food bank distributed 1.5 million pounds of food within the last year.
