GUEST: Dr. Paula Walker discusses healthy cholesterol levels

Dr. Paula Walker withColumbus State University came to the WTVM studio on Tuesday morning, March 25,to discuss the importance of maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

"It's a waxy substancethat can literally cause plaque to develop in the arteries, and when it formsin the arteries, it impedes blood flow, so it can cause heart attacks andstrokes," Walker says.

She says there is goodcholesterol called HDL, which can protect there heart; And bad cholesterolcalled LDL which is harmful.

A good HDL level is 60 orgreater, while a good LDL number is less than 100. Combined cholesterol shouldbe less than 200.

To keep cholesterol under control,Walker recommends exercising 30 mins. most days of the week, eating low-fatfoods, bake, broil, steam and grill food, and add fiber to your diet.
