AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Even though all of their games may not have been up to par, celebrities from all over the United States hit the green Monday in order to help those in need in Lee County.

"We're passionate about helping this community, keeping our foundation local here in Lee County and try to help the kids in need that are right around our area," explains PGA Golfer Jason Dufner.

The Inaugural Jason Dufner Charitable Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic kicked off this morning at the Moore's Mill Golf Club in Auburn.

Many familiar faces were on the course, including Auburn legend Bo Jackson and 2007 Masters Tournament winner Zach Johnson.

Without hesitation, these celebs agreed to play all with the same goal in mind, ending childhood hunger, a growing epidemic in Lee County.

"The community is welcoming them to come in a do things that so needed. It's a subject that not talked about, child hunger and they have decided to put it out front to let everybody know what they're doing and they're doing it in a classy way. So kudos to the Dufner's," says Jackson.

"When you have this game of golf to provide an opportunity for kids, in whatever way that is, you're going to do it," explains Johnson.

Today, the childhood food insecurity rate in Lee County stands at approximately 20 percent.

All money raised in the tournament will benefit Lee County Blessings in a Backpack, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County and AU's College of Human Sciences & Hunger Solutions Institute.

All are organizations the Dufners hold dear to their heart.

"Through our foundation we are feeding about 800 kids here in Lee County. About 2,200 kids could fall into our program that we want to try and reach and help out with the food program we are doing through the local schools here. So we're excited to be able to raise the funds, help these kids out and give back to our community," says Dufner.
