AUGUSTA, GA (WTVM) -

A film about the life of the Godfather of Soul James Brown called "Get On Up" hits the big screen this summer.

Some fans of the artist in Augusta, Ga. are working to get the film's creators to premiere it in the city, where Brown spent much of his life.

There's now an online push to help the studio make a decision. Sean Frantom is the creator of the Bring The "Get On Up" Premiere to Augusta Facebook page.

"I think because of what James Brown did for Augusta, Georgia and think about how many times he put Augusta, in his music and in his songs," Frantom said.

The page creator has gotten a letter of support from the mayor and he's hoping to get one from the governor.

"Get On Up" hits theaters August 1.
