Gov. Bentley visits local school

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Governor made a special visit to a local school Friday.

Holy Family Regional Catholic School welcomed Governor Bentley. He visited some of the classrooms and talked with some of the students.

More than 50 years ago, Holy Family became the first integrated school in the state. Holy Family was started as a mission school for African Americans. In 1963, the school opened its doors to white students.

"They're doing a fantastic job here, and they're doing it right," said Governor Bentley. "They're educating the children, and they're doing a fantastic job."

The visit concluded in St. Joseph Catholic Church which is located on the same property. Governor Bentley gave remarks, and then a student made a presentation to him.
