HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville police are looking for a burglar who was shot by the 83-year-old resident of the home he had entered.

The burglary happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on the 2400 block of Dairy Lane.

The victim told police that a man knocked on his back door and told him he needed help. The victim said he turned to call 911, and the burglar began kicking the door, broke the glass and came inside.

Police said the 83-year-old man grabbed a handgun and shot the burglar in the chest once. Authorities said the burglar then dove out of the window and fled.

Officers have not found the burglar yet. He was described as wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

A robbery reportedly happened just 15 minutes before this incident at a nearby home. It is unknown if these crimes are connected yet.
